The Nano-Swarmers weapon is a weapon in Tools of Destruction and Quest for Booty. Manufactured by GrummelNet Industries, it is a glove which deploys a hive of aggressive "nanosects"[1] which sting enemies to death, guided by a targeting laser on the hives.

The Nano-Swarmers can be upgraded to the Toxic Swarmers with use. In challenge mode, it can be upgraded to the Omega Toxic Swarmers.

Characteristics[]

The Nano-Swarmers glove is yellow with purple highlights, and on top of the back of the wrist is a yellow pod, presumably from which the hives launch. The Toxic Swarmers glove is a completely purple weapon with a larger yellow capsule at the back. Toxic Swarmer nanosects each have a toxic injection of zanifarian death weasel venom.[2]

The hives deployed are have a long stalk, a yellow hive, and a pod on top from which the targeting laser seeks enemies. When deployed, they are swarmed with nanosects, and upon depletion over time, the number of visible nanosects decrease. When none remain, the hives are gone.

Gameplay[]

Overview[]

Nano-Swarmers gameplay

The Nano-Swarmers in action.

The Nano-Swarmers deploys hives which send nanosects to attack enemies. The nanosects will attack whichever enemy is targeted by the targeting laser based on proximity, and once that enemy is defeated, will move onto the next enemy. It is useful against all types of threats and can be deployed very strategically, making it useful as a supportive weapon that deals damage while Ratchet uses another weapon. The downside of the weapon is that it deals damage over time, is limited to a fixed location, only targets one enemy at a time, has a very low ammo capacity, and is very slow to place repeatedly.

A maximum of five hives could be active at once, with each hive lasting at most either thirty seconds, or a total of forty hits. Hives have an attack rate of five hits per second once they are locked on.

With use, it could be upgraded to the Toxic Swarmers, giving the nanosects a toxic injection of venom; poisoning enemies on hit. The poison equals 20% of the damage per hit on each tick per second, but only lasts for five seconds, thus dealing a single extra hit of damage within the time it takes for the Toxic Swarmers to deal thirty attacks.

Tools of Destruction[]

The Nano-Swarmers is available upon reaching planet Ardolis for 65,000 bolts from any weapons vendor, and could be upgraded to the Toxic Swarmers with use on V5.

The raritanium upgrades include More damage, Bigger area, and More ammo, which improve the weapon across the board, while More bolts is a nice bonus. Bigger area is the most valuable by far, followed by More ammo, each fixing two of its more impactful downsides. Its Zero-Kelvin Laser Diode is useful at improving its defensive capabilities, as it can freeze enemies (the freezing rate is weaker on stronger enemies), although the upside of this is limited as it can only freeze one enemy at a time until it dies.

In challenge mode, it could be upgraded to the Omega Nano-Swarmers for 9,000,000 bolts.

Quest for Booty[]

The Nano-Swarmers are available at the beginning of Quest for Booty at V3, but are lost in the Azorean Sea when Rusty Pete launches Ratchet and Talwyn to Hoolefar Island. It is recovered from the sea by the Smuggler, and returned to Ratchet alongside the Predator Launcher upon reaching Darkwater Cove in "Search for Clues". It still upgrades to the Toxic Swarmers with use.

The Zero-Kelvin Laser Diode upgrade can be found hidden away around a corner in the Lythoin Caves during "Escape the Deadly Caves". Ratchet had to turn left after killing the first pythor and look for the upgrade in a small dead end hidden around the cliff face.
