Mods first appeared in Going Commando, as sold by Slim Cognito at the back of his truck on various planets in the game.

In Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando there were three types of mods: the lock-on mod, the shock mod and the acid mod. Lock-on could be added to any weapon that Ratchet owned, but shock and acid mods could only be attached to specific weapons. Slim Cognito sold these mods at the back of his truck on various planets.

Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal

In Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal, weapon modifications were automatically added on as Ratchet used and upgraded his weapons.

Ratchet: Deadlocked

In Ratchet: Deadlocked, mods took the center stage as the main source of weapon improvement. There were two classifications of mods: alpha and omega. Alpha mods improved a weapon basic stats and include speed, knock-back, damage, range, ammo, blast-range, jackpot, and nano-boost. Multiple alpha mods could be equipped with more modification slots opening up once weapons were upgraded. Omega mods included shock, brainwash, napalm, freeze, morph, infect, time-bomb, and mini-bomb. Only one omega mod could be an equipped at a time per weapon.

Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters

Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters reintroduced Slim Cognito as the intermediate between Ratchet and his weapon mods. Each weapon had several specific mods including the usual lock-on, shock and acid.

Secret Agent Clank

In Secret Agent Clank, Ratchet could win mods to add to his weapons and OmniWrench 10K. Mods could also be bought by Clank.
