Viceron is a location in Tools of Destruction, mentioned in Quest for Booty, A Crack in Time, Into the Nexus, and Ratchet & Clank (2016 game). Located in the Verdigris Sector of the Polaris Galaxy, the planet is home to the infamous Zordoom Prison, a prison that houses intergalactic prisoners from across the universe.

Ratchet and Clank came to Zordoom Prison while it was under Emperor Tachyon's rule, when he was holding Talwyn Apogee prisoner. The two were directed by Captain Qwark, who had access to the schematics.

A counterpart to the planet as well as Zordoom Prison also existed in Rivet's dimension in Rift Apart.

History[]

Before Tools of Destruction[]

Sigmund once served as a cleaner bot on planet Viceron. A Zoni named Orvus came to Viceron, in one of his only three trips away from the Great Clock during his reign, and selected Sigmund to be the Junior Caretaker of the Great Clock.[1]

During the Great War, Viceron was involved somehow in the greater conflicts occurring across Polaris. The warbot Cronk was stationed at the Upsilon Outpost on planet Viceron for some time during the conflict.[citation needed]

Many space pirates were imprisoned at Zordoom.[2] Captain Slag once won the "Zordoom Prison semi-annual beauty pageant".[3]

Slim Cognito (829-C) was arrested for exposing his Class B Grav-Cannon to a group of female tumfoids during a rock concert in Meridian City, Igliak.[4] Ace Hardlight was also imprisoned here after surviving his defeat in Deadlocked.[5]

When Tachyon took over the Polaris Galaxy, Zordoom Prison became the most feared location in the galaxy, as Tachyon's opponents (or those who failed to show sufficiently gleeful obsequiousness) were sent to Zordoom for life, and even visitors were given life sentences.[6] Life sentences were also given for transgressions such as learning at the Hall of Knowledge,[7] and failing in the Imperial Fight Festival (with an "all-expenses paid trip" offered as a "consolation prize").[8] Following their defeat to the Imperial Army, a large number of terraklons, including Flint Vorselon (inmate 260-G), were sent to the prison,[5] while the rest were sent to the Imperial Fight Festival. Viceron was voted the second worst tourist location by the GrummelNet Intergalactic Travel Guide alongside Praxus VI, only being beaten by planet Jasindu, which held Kerchu City.[9]

Tools of Destruction[]

Operation Death Wish

The Imperial Army captured Talwyn Apogee and her warbots Cronk and Zephyr on Sargasso.[10] The Zoni told Clank that Talwyn was there in a vision while Clank was repairing the IRIS Supercomputer. Though Ratchet was furious at Clank keeping things from him, he reluctantly traveled to Viceron,[11] requesting holographic schematics from Qwark. Qwark instead drew schematics of his plan,[12] exaggerating aspects of Zordoom including claiming it had a "walkway of tortured souls" and was defended by "zombie ninja panda bears".[13]

In "Grind the Rails to the Prison", Ratchet infiltrated the prison and found Talwyn inside. Qwark continued to direct Ratchet from a distance, codenaming himself "Strong Jaw" and Ratchet "Dead Meat". During the time of Ratchet's visit, the terraklons' sentences were commuted after their homeworld was consumed in the Virilium Supernova.[5] In "Jailbreak", Ratchet reached the prison, having breached its defenses, and reached Talywn in the Sector 11 cell block.[14] After reaching her, in "Escape from Zordoom", the three escaped together. Talwyn went off to find Cronk and Zephyr, while Ratchet and Clank escaped the way they had entered, Emperor Tachyon broadcasting to Ratchet that a room was there waiting for him. Talwyn found Cronk and Zephyr in the scrap compressor and rescued them.[15]

After Tools of Destruction[]

Flint Vorselon, managed to escape Zordoom and Viceron by stealing an m-class star cruiser which was later found by galactic authorities with Vorselon nowhere to be found.[16]

Geography[]

Viceron is a dark and dismal planet with a thick orange atmosphere (as can be seen from space). Around Zordoom Prison, there is little natural walkable surface, as most of the islands across the vast ocean are simple rocky cliffs on which the Zordoom Prison structures are situated. The prison structures often have tall legs that plant them in place.

Zordoom Prison is heavily-defended by the Imperial Army, including mounted enforcer turrets that are activated by a motion sensor. A network of grind rails around the prison connect its various structures, which also features tall pillars with large fans that can be operated with Heli-Pods.

The Sector 2 cell block area is an enormous dome, with pods lining the interior wall and pillar in the center. It leads to two separate entrances, and the C-3 elevator, which is defended by numerous laser grids. At the bottom is the Sector 11 cell block, which is also the highest security level within the prison, where prisoners are held in small mobile cells that can be transported around the prison on rails.

Characteristics[]

Aside from Talwyn (inmate 979-B), Zordoom's inmates have included Captain Slag,[3] Ace Hardlight (inmate 510-D), Slim Cognito (inmate 829-C), Lord Vorselon (inmate 260-G),[5] Shiv Helix,[17] and characters named Crow McConigal (inmate 394-K)[5] and Renford L. Goodwin (inmate 138-Q).[15]

Robot prisoners are sent to the scrap compressor for execution.[15]

Under Tachyon's rule, all sentences appeared to be life sentences, and no paroles or pardons were given.[6] Harsh rules and punishments were given for inmates. Inmates caught mocking Emperor Tachyon's name or size were executed immediately by firing squad, and those caught smuggling GrummelNet Industries contraband to the prison were forced to listen to grabthorian folk music for ten cycles.[5] On Mother's Day, Zordoom Prison extended its visiting hours.[2]

Zordoom Prison held bathhouses, ice cream socials,[8] and a cryosleep chamber. It also required some prisoners to participate in mess hall duty, including Ace Hardlight.[5]
