These are challenges available to the contestants of DreadZone in aplanet Torval in Deadlocked. This planet and its challenges come directly after the Crusader Tournament and the Valix Belt, and will provide the necessary Dread Points and orange medal for the Vindicator Tournament.

Challenges[]

Hoverbike or Bust[]

Torval features no new weapons, Omega mods, nor enemies, so skip the vendor and take out the 70 millimeter Stalker Turret up ahead. There are three of such spread around the map, each guarding two hackable orbs. DZ Vipers support the turret (note the snipers on the ridge on your left), and robot zombies will show up from behind it when you get close enough. Head around the central statue to find the second turret, along with more zombies, and a Laser Back that appears when the turret is destroyed. The third turret is on the left, and much like the previous ones is guarded by Vipers and followed up by a Laser Back upon its destruction.

Seek and Destroy[]

In "Seek and Destroy" you get to roam around part of the map using the hoverbike acquired in the previous challenge. The goal is to destroy a total of twelve drones, which will fly around following one another while using the same path. If a drone is approached from the front it will quickly turn around and head backwards, but since they are easier to cut off from their normal direction this is not recommended. Simply find the tail end of the drone train and keep shooting every last drone in range, cutting corners when possible to gain extra distance (such as at the statue). They all have a small shield so they will take at least some damage. You should also keep shooting constantly, as not only can you hit the drones, but also explosive barrels which might either impair your path or take out a drone in the explosion.

The Turn On[]

In this challenge you must capture three bolt cranks spread around the entire Torval map, which you can either traverse on foot or with the hoverbike. Although the latter is faster, you do miss out on weapon experience, and the enemies are not noticeably problematic at this point in the game. The first two nodes are in the interior of the structure in front of you when you start the mission. The interior contains many containers that spawn Blade Balls, and the left entrance is protected by Executioners (which also guard the left entrance), whereas the center and right entrances are protected by large Beam Turrets.

DZ Vipers guard both nodes, and several corridors as well, and will actively operate two turrets at the north-eastern node. Three Executioners will also ambush you there, whereas the north-western node is guarded by Beam Turrets and a pair of Laser Backs. The node at the southern end is through a building and past several Executioners and many Laser Backs, at the very end of a dead-end land bridge on the south-western side.

Note that you don't need to traverse the whole map to capture all the nodes, but that if you go to explore you can use your new Gravity Boots to access three Grav-O-Tronic surfaces to find jackpot crates hidden at each ramp.

Blast of Fresh Air[]

The final challenge on Torval is relatively easy; all you need to do is order your bots to place four explosives and then survive about fifteen seconds. The only area you get access to is the statue and the space on both sides, each of which is guarded by a Stalker Turret. Executioners will also be around at first, but not once they are destroyed. Capturing nodes will trigger Blade Balls to appear, and capturing two will also make a pair DreadZone dropships fly in to drop squads of DZ Vipers. Another pair will also take position near the statue and rain down heavy missile fire on your position if given the chance, so take them out as soon as possible. Once cleared the final explosives can be placed after which you just need to wait out the timer.

Completion of "Blast of Fresh Air" rewards the player character with an orange medal, with which they should have all they need to attempt the Vindicator Tournament, after collecting enough Dread Points by completing Dread Challenges.

Dread Challenges[]

Turret Trouble[]

Torval has only a single Dread Challenge; "Turret Trouble". This is also the only challenge in which you must use a turret, with no access to other weapons or Merc and Green to support you. The goal is to survive for four rounds, against a variety of ranged enemies such as Cycloids, DZ Vipers, dropships, Executioners, and Laser Backs. The turret can withstand a lot of damage, but success in the challenge still depends on being able to take out the enemies as quickly as possible.
