The Prison Planet, also known as planet Galaticca,[a] is a major location in Secret Agent Clank. Located in the Solana Galaxy, the planet holds criminals from Solana and the Bogon Galaxy, and is protected by a planet-wide energy shield. Among the prisoners are many former enemies of Ratchet and Clank.

Ratchet was sentenced to the Prison Planet when he was framed for the theft of the Eye of Infinity. During his time, a corrupt robotic warden kept Ratchet there, and allowed his former enemies to attempt to hurt or kill him while he was in there. In the prison's max-security cells, the mess hall, the exercise yard, and the showers, Ratchet fought a number of other inmates for his survival until he was pardened by President Phyronix.

History[]

The Prison Planet's history prior to Secret Agent Clank is unclear, except that many of Ratchet's former enemies were sent there. This included the amoeboids, the Thug Leader,[1] his lizard thugs from the Thugs-4-Less, Megacorp's spider-bots,[b] and tyhrranoids. It also included intergalactic gladiators, namely the Megacorp gladiators from Galactic Gladiators and Megacorp Games, and the reapers from DreadZone. At some point, Slim Cognito was imprisoned for all the illegal merchandise he sold.[2] The planet also had its entire wait staff at the mess hall quit, causing it to use pneumatic tubes to deliver food instead.[3]

Ratchet, Up The River

The Warden visiting Ratchet in his cell.

Ratchet was sentenced there after Klunk's mind control device caused him to steal the Eye of Infinity.[4] Upon arrival, the warden smugly told him that other inmates were ready to pick a fight with him, and refused to protect him, revealing to him he'd been bribed to ensure Ratchet had a difficult time there.[5] In "Life In Prison" and "No Time for Seconds", Ratchet fought several other prisoners in the max-security cells and the mess hall, just to fight for his life. Throughout his stay, Clank mailed weapons to Ratchet in the form of birthday cakes, which the warden gave to Ratchet while largely turning a blind eye to them.[6]

An Inevitable Reunion

In "And the password is...", Clank sent a message to Ratchet via Slim Cognito to ask Ratchet to find a prisoner who knew the code to access the high-stakes room of Le Paradis Des Tricheurs Casino. Slim knew the code himself, and gave it to Ratchet only when Ratchet helped protect Slim from other inmates who wanted revenge for his faulty merchandise.[2] Later, in "Plumbing Troubles", Ratchet ran into the Plumber, who had been called to fix the unusually warm temperatures at the showers;[c] after helping the Plumber fix a valve to cool the water, a pipe burst and released water, leading Ratchet to yet another fight.

Klunk controlled Ratchet to broadcast a message to the galaxy threatening to destroy every planet if they did not free Ratchet and give him his own planet to rule. In "The Great Escape", as a result of this, the prisoners caused a riot in fear trying to escape; the warden forced Ratchet to stop the escape, or he would be held responsible.[8] After stopping it successfully, Ratchet was granted a call to Clank, where they spoke briefly.[9] When Klunk was stopped, Ratchet was granted a full pardon, as recommended by the Agency.[10]

Geography[]

Overview[]

The prison is built entirely into the hollowed-out crust of the planet,[11] with the exception of the showers located at the bottom of the planet's ocean. The entire planet is surrounded by an immense energy shield, presumably preventing other prisoners escaping. Little can be seen of the planet's geography, and the prison structure is visible from space, suggesting the planet is inhospitable.

Max-security cells[]

Life In Prison gameplay

The max-security cell blocks are a part of Galactic Ultra-High Security Lockdown,[5] and are where the prison's toughest criminals were kept. They are bored down into the crust of the prison planet and stacked in a giant tower.[11]

During his time in the prison planet, Ratchet was kept in Cell number 7JB in Cell Block A.[5] Aside from a few benches with barbells for exercise, the prison cells had little to offer inmates. The max-security cells also had an indestructible hunter orb for use against tough prisoners, which when activated, set prisoners on fire and shot fire balls.

Mess hall[]

No Time for Seconds gameplay

Food is eaten at the mess hall, a wide, metal room where food is served by machines. Surrounding the mess hall, ovens can be seen, roasted meats, as well as large packs of french fries and vegetables, all on conveyor belts. Food is delivered through pneumatic tubes as a result of the waiting staff quitting,[3] though tyhrranoids were able to use these chutes to transport themselves in.

Exercise yard[]

And the password is..

The exercise yard is a walled, open area on the edge of the building; a broken wall presented an opportunity for prisoners to escape onto a concrete path outside. The area contains hi-tech weightlifting equipment (with visible benches and barbells) and also a dodgeball court with automated dodgeball cannons, used both for dodgeball and to shoot escaping prisoners. In addition to the dodgeball cannons, the yard also has large turrets launching plasma bullets, large fire balls, rockets, and acid bombs in case of said prisoners escaping.[12]

Showers[]

The showers are located at the bottom of the planet's ocean to keep them freezing cold.[7] Windows surrounding the showers show a nearby ocean of several sea creatures, including sharkigators. Inside, the showers have several hi-tech dryer tubes that pull inmates in when opened, and wide showers that when activated can send an inmate into a drain at the center.

The cutscene in the prison showers was the only time you could see Ratchet's hands in the series.

There are several playable cut Prison Planet challenges in the High Impact Games Treehouse, which include a shower level with a slippery floor, similar to ice.

Notes[]

Annotations[]

  1. The Prison Planet is named "Planet Galaticca" in the first two skill points for the Prison Planet. Galaticca is likely a working name for the planet that was not removed everywhere prior to release.
  2. As the Thugs-4-Less used Megacorp Security Robots while holding Aranos, it is likely that those imprisoned were the Thugs' robots.
  3. Because the showers were intended to be kept freezing cold,[7] it is likely that the Plumber was called in to keep them that way, and that any warmth at all would not be tolerated.
