Hydrano is a planet in the Solana Galaxy featured in Secret Agent Clank. An immense dam in the middle cuts the planet in half, where an ocean covers one hemisphere and arid desert terrain covers the other. Though little is seen around the desert hemisphere, more population and activity are seen around the dam's edge. In the ocean hemisphere, Klunk's underwater base, a former munitions depot, is hidden on the ocean floor, containing Klunk's villainous lair, albeit inaccessible unless one could breach the main bulkhead lock.

Clank tracked his ship, after Klunk had stole it, back to Hydrano, and searched for Klunk's lair. After first landing at the dam's edge, he was then able to enter the underwater base assisted by the Agency's gadgebot mk.IIs. Meanwhile, Captain Qwark told a story to Barney about a native fish-men population at dam's edge.

History[]

At some point after Otto Destruct's defeat, Klunk obtained an ocean bunker here to utilize as his secret base on Hydrano.[1] Klunk set a plan in motion in which he would threaten to aim a laser, refracted by the Eye of Infinity in a satellite to destroy every planet in the galaxy, and frame Ratchet for the crime. Thereafter, he would disguise himself as Clank and dismantle the same laser, claiming credit as a hero for a stopping a crime he himself caused.[2]

When Klunk caught Clank at the spaceship graveyard, he stole Clank's ship and returned to Hydrano, allowing Clank to follow him as Giant Clank. Clank was unable to locate Klunk after arriving until he saw the Head Goon on dam's edge,[3] and in "Follow that Car!", he chased the Head Goon in a car before catching up to him. The Head Goon then revealed the base's location, and Clank turned his vehicle to a submarine to catch Klunk.[4] Meanwhile, in "Qwarkography, Ch. 5", Captain Qwark fabricated a story about helping the local fish-men population fight off waves of cactus pirates trying to shatter the dam, while riding a mechanical rocket horse and dressing as a cowboy.[5]

After reaching the base, Clank found the door impenetrable, and in "Locked Door", Ms. Cute Anastasia Bot sent the Agency gadgebots to unlock it.[6] Thereafter, in "Clank under glass", Clank infiltrated the base to reach Klunk, who revealed his plan. In "All The Marbles", Clank and Klunk fought, during which time Klunk admitted to underestimating Clank, but revealing his backup plan: activating the countdown for the laser and subsequently destroying the control device so that even if Clank defeated Klunk, the laser would activate and destroy every planet anyway.[7] Clank successfully beat Klunk, and when Qwark arrived, he sent Qwark to the satellite to remove the Eye of Infinity and stop the laser.

Hydrano is separated by an immense dam, making one half of the planet an ocean and the other half a vast desert. The dam itself is covered by a glass wall, surrounded by desert regions comprising canyons and plateaus nearby.[a] Atop the dam is a path undergoing construction at the time of Secret Agent Clank, with a mix of metal roads and glass bridges over the water. The path is also guarded by turrets.

The underwater base comprises several heavily-guarded large rooms connected by glass corridors. Mines float in various pools around the base, as well as some right outside the corridors; if anyone stepped into the mine's line of sight, it would explode and fill the corridor, drowning whoever was caught in it. Laser traps are also in place in some corridors, which triggered gas traps capable of harming robots. The base also has several submersibles hanging from cranes, presumably used for underwater transit.

Outside the underwater base, shark-a-anglers are among the creatures that populate it on the outside, capable of triggering the alarm upon spotting intruders. The internal pools also contained shark-a-angler, with their antenna cut off, allowing them to be usable as platforms.

Notes[]

Annotations
  1. Though the desert regions appear entirely unpopulated, in Qwark's story, in addition to the fish-men and cactus beasts he claimed, strange mutant bulls with a similar appearance to the Armoogeddon's "Mad Cow" bulls from Size Matters roam the desert.
