Nothing gets the job done quite like a portal to another dimension!

The arena commentator, if the Rift Inducer 5000 was used in the Agorian Battleplex, ACiT

The Rift Inducer 5000 is a weapon manufactured by GrummelNet Industries in A Crack in Time (though it has made other appearances in the series). Functioning similarly to the Rift Inducer, the Rift Inducer 5000 opens a portal to another dimension, from which the tentacles of an inter-dimensional monster (named "Fred" by the GrummelNet engineers)[1] pulls enemies in.

The Rift Inducer 5000 can be upgraded to the Rift Ripper 5000 with use. The Omega Rift Ripper 5000 can be purchased in challenge mode.

History[]

Origins[]

The Rift Inducer 5000 is said to use the same technology as the Dimensionator.[2] However, it seems to be linked to only one dimension, and can't be used to contact or travel to other dimensions, like the Lombax dimension.

Despite sharing a name with the Gadgetron Rift Inducer and functioning similarly, there are no explicit connections between the weapons.

A Crack in Time[]

The Rift Inducer 5000 is available for purchase upon reaching the Nefarious Space Station for 91,000 bolts. At V5, it is upgraded to the Rift Ripper 5000. In challenge mode, the Omega Rift Ripper 5000 can be purchased for 491,000 bolts.

Comic book series[]

The Rift Inducer 5000 appeared in Ratchet & Clank: Issue 1: Ears of War and Ratchet & Clank: Issue 5: Multiple Organisms on the wall of Ratchet's garage.[3][4]

Before the Nexus[]

The Rift Inducer 5000, name shortened to Rift Inducer, is available as a gadget. It must be unlocked with bolts, and can be upgraded twice to last longer. It pulls in all enemies and crates, and releases bolts after expiring.

Characteristics[]

The Rift Inducer 5000 is a very small blue pistol with a short barrel and a simple trigger. The Rift Ripper 5000 is a golden pistol instead. When fired, both weapons create a flat portal directly in the air, from which the large, green, spiked tentacles of "Fred" pull enemies in. One of Fred's eyes can be seen from the portal, and will take notice of enemies before pulling them in.

Combat[]

The Rift Inducer 5000 damages and pulls in enemies near the explosion created. It is capable of pulling in most small-to-medium enemies, but is ineffective against larger enemies and bosses. This means that using the Rift Inducer 5000 allows the player to quickly clear a portion of the battlefield of most smaller threats around a certain area, at least for the duration of the portal.

The Rift Inducer 5000 is upgraded to the Rift Ripper 5000, which allows its tentacles to extend further. This allows the weapon to cover a larger area and therefore defeat more enemies.
