The Map-o-Matic,[1] occasionally spelled Map-o-matic[2] or Map-O-Matic,[3][4] is an item in the Ratchet & Clank series. It is an illegal expansion to existing map technology[5] that locates valuable items and hidden locations using Hypermatic signals. This reveals secret areas on the world map and allows the player to find hidden items; secret areas are usually marked as green.

In Going Commando, the Megacorp manufactured Mapper can be obtained, with identical functionality, after Megacorp Advisory speculated one could be found to replace Ratchet's Map-o-Matic that was destroyed in battle.[6] In Tools of Destruction, A Crack in Time and Into the Nexus, the identical Treasure Mapper can be obtained, which uses space pirate technology.

Gameplay[]

Ratchet & Clank[]

In the original Ratchet & Clank, the Map-o-Matic can locate gold bolts among other items, and is acquired from the HelpDesk Girl at the Gadgetron site on Kalebo III after traversing grind rails.

In the 2016-imagined game it is acquired from the same place on Kalebo III, though the HelpDesk Girl does not appear, and can locate gold bolts, holocards, Raritanium, and telepathopus brains.

Up Your Arsenal[]

In Up Your Arsenal, the Map-o-Matic is given to Ratchet after completing Operation: URBAN STORM, the Galactic Rangers operation taking place on Metropolis, after all the Rangers chipped in to give Ratchet a gift.[7] It can locate titanium bolts, sewer crystals and collectible trophies.

Size Matters[]

In Size Matters, it can locate titanium bolts, but not armor pieces, and can be purchased from a Gadgetron vendor upon reaching the Farming Cooperative on Dayni Moon for 50,000 bolts.

Rift Apart[]

In Rift Apart, the Map-o-Matic can locate all collectibles, including gold bolts, armor pieces, spybots, and Lorbs. The only items it cannot locate are CraiggerBears. The Map-o-Matic is obtained in the Pirate Base, Ardolis, for completing the side mission "Treasure Hunt". The Space Pirates pilfered the Map-o-Matic during one of their raids on the Vullards of Torren IV and brought it back to the Blackstar Landing at their base on Ardolis. They are fiercely protective of their booty and fight Ratchet to stop him reaching it.
