Artemis Zogg is a visionary! That imbecile gave him no alternative!

Mr. Klink

Mr. Klink, later known as Warden Klink, was a minor character in the six issue Ratchet & Clank comic series and part of Artemis Zogg's ministry during Zogg's time as defense minister of the Polaris Galaxy.

He was a fiercely devoted loyalist of Zogg's and part of the team developing the Helios Project on planet Igliak in Meridian City. Klink idolized Zogg, describing him as a visionary and faithfully served his newly established administration after he seceded from the Polaris Government.

After Zogg lost the election for Galactic President and the Helios Program was terminated, Mr. Klink joined Zogg in his crusade to create the Artemis Galaxy and became the warden at the Vartax Detention Facility. Mr. Klink was executed by Zogg for failing to stop Ratchet, Clank, General Glahm, Cronk, and Zephyr, along with many other inmates from breaking out of his prison.

History[]

Developing the Helios Project[]

During Artemis Zogg's long tenure as Minister of Defense for the Polaris Galaxy, Mr. Klink worked as a loyal part of his ministry and the Galactic Panel of Interstellar Know-it-alls developing the Helios Project, designed to transport planets across the universe in the event of invasions or natural disasters. However, after Qwark's manager Cyrus convinced him to run for Galactic President and forgo supporting Zogg's own campaign for office, Zogg was outraged. When Qwark won the elections and terminated the Helios Project, Zogg was pushed over the edge and set out on a path of vengeance against Qwark and the people who had foolishly voted him into office.

Warden of the Vartax Detention Facility[]

Zogg declared that the people had failed them and told Mr. Klink to gather the site's worker bots and meet him at the Vartax Outpost, just beyond the Corvus Sector. At the outpost was an abandoned robot factory which the two put back into operation and created an army of warbots to aid them in achieving their new goal. This goal was to repurpose Helios to instead steal planets from across the universe and create the Artemis Galaxy, which Zogg would rule as Galactic President. Zogg's forces took control of a large space station prison located near the outpost named the Vartax Detention Facility, and Mr. Klink became it's warden. The facility was used to incarcerate all those who would threaten Zogg's plans.

Cafeteria fight[]

Ratchet and Clank were thrown into the Vartax Detention Facility by Artemis Zogg to keep the duo from interfering with his plans for the Artemis Galaxy. The duo were unsuccessful in escaping after three months of attempts. At the cafeteria, Klink made announcements over a screen about new cafeteria food, oil treatment for synthetic guests, and the further expansion of Artemis Zogg's galaxy.

Whilst the two were getting lunch, Ratchet accidentally bumped into an Agorian named General Glahm. The general recognized Ratchet from their Krell Canyon battle on planet Lumos and right away picked a fight with the Lombax. Klink however stopped the quarrel, and as a punishment for their misconduct, sentenced them to be executed by being launched out the airlock. During the walk there, Glahm revealed to Ratchet that the fight was merely a ruse in order to escape, as security was low in the airlock sector.

Prison break[]

Meanwhile, back in his prison cell, Clank, along with a Space Pirate, managed to steal the key to unlock their cells from a guard and escape. Back at the airlock, Ratchet and Glahm were about to be executed, when Glahm's back-up, Cronk and Zephyr, came to the rescue. A huge firefight occurred as the heroes shot their way through the robot guards, until Ratchet and Clank were able to reunite with eachother. The Space Pirate meanwhile riled up the other inmates to start a prison riot and keep the security occupied, while Klink shouted in vain for them to halt violating Zogg statute 35-77. Warden Klink was unable to stop the heroes alone and many of his guards were destroyed. The heroes made an escape in Talwyn Apogee's ship, but Glahm stayed behind to hold the remaining security robots back. Cronk and Zephyr earlier planted explosive pyrocidic nitrocells in the loading bay and detonated them upon leaving, destroying the facility's ships and preventing security from pursuing the escapees.

Execution[]

For failing to prevent the prisoner escapes, Zogg had Klink himself taken to the airlocks and prepared to have him executed. Over a viewscreen, Klink desperately attempted to convince a displeased Zogg that there was nothing he could have done to stop the inmates from escaping. Zogg had no interest in any excuses however and said goodbye to Mr. Klink, before mockingly adding that he hopes a ship crosses his path before his battery expires. Klink was then launched out of the garbage chute airlock and into the depths of space.

Trivia[]

  • His name is based on an actual, but rarely used, name given to prisons.
