Ratchet flying through a series of pads
Kick pads were circular panels found usually above gorges and canyons.[1] They had a blue cross over them. The kick pads were similar to the grippy walls used in Wall jumping. When hoverbooting, Ratchet sometimes encountered flying over large gaps or gorges. In order to get through, Ratchet had to fly against bounce pads, so that he could kick off them to give him more momentum.

A larger and differently colored variant of kick pads appeared in 'All 4 One'. When the heroes were coiled up into balls (similar to the Gyro-cycle), they could bounce off the pads to reach a far away area.
