The 2016 re-imagined game is primarily an unreliable retelling of events by Qwark.
The re-imagined game primarily describes Captain Qwark's account of events. As Qwark is an unreliable narrator, and contradictory events are in-universe fiction (though those which correspond still apply). Please see Project:Bulletin board/Canon for the wiki's coverage of canon.

Elaris is a support character in the Ratchet & Clank 2016 re-imagined game, the Ratchet & Clank movie, the movie novel, and Hero Time. She is the technical support of the Galactic Rangers, who designs their gear and provides tactical support via the communication station. She served as the brains of the Rangers, and preferred to think plans through before putting them into action, though Captain Qwark and the other Rangers often paid her little notice. During missions, she often stayed behind in the Starship Phoenix, providing tactical support from a distance.

History[]

Pre-Ratchet & Clank[]

Elaris became a member of the Galactic Rangers, replacing the previous technical support, Dr. Nefarious, who left the team after mistreatment by Captain Qwark.[2] Her office was a simple broom closet.

Ratchet & Clank re-imagined[]

Ride the train to the Hall of Heroes cutscene 1

Elaris being introduced to Ratchet and Clank.

When Ratchet and Clank were recruited to the Galactic Rangers after fending off Chairman Drek's invasion of Kerwan, Elaris was introduced to the two when they entered her office while she was playing a game. While Ratchet left to train with Brax Lectrus, Clank remained in Elaris' office to become more acquainted. Clank seemed concerned for how small her office was, to which she replied it was not as bad as it seemed. She also told Clank about Dr. Nefarious, the previous owner, who had been driven mad and betrayed the Rangers because of mistreatment. The two then discovered that several famous landmarks had been stolen from mysteriously destroyed planets. When Ratchet and Qwark returned to check on them, they attempted to report their progress, but the two were uninterested, and Qwark asked her to mop the floor.[2]

Head to the Bridge cutscene 2

Elaris and Clank witnessing the destruction of Novalis.

Elaris provided tactical support for the Rangers as they pulled off several missions throughout the galaxy. Later, the Rangers attacked the blarg on planet Quartu, and Elaris built them each XK-81 Jetpacks after Ratchet and Clank acquired the designs on Gaspar.[3] After interrogating Drek's assistant, Zed, they discovered that Drek was going to destroy Novalis with his Deplanetizer. Elaris and Clank remained in the Starship Phoenix while the other Rangers attacked the station in class-g Star Jumpers. When Victor Von Ion attacked the Phoenix, Clank managed to defeat him using the ships' Fire Suppression System. However, Qwark betrayed the Rangers, and they were unsuccessful in stopping the Deplanetizer from destroying Novalis. The Rangers returned to Kerwan, while Ratchet returned to Veldin in an escape pod in disgrace.

After Clank managed to persuade Ratchet to return to the Rangers, they discovered that his final target was Umbris. Elaris explained that there was a major conjunction of all the planets in the system that night, making Ratchet realize that Dr. Nefarious was simply using Drek to have the planets destroyed on the Rangers' watch. Elaris and Clank began to speak up about their plan to stop the Deplanetizer, expecting not to be listened to. However, Ratchet allowed the two to offer their plan.[2]

Elaris' plan involved Ratchet and Clank picking up a Hologuise from Gadgetron's site on Kalebo III,[3] so that they could disguise as Qwark to infiltrate the Deplanetizer. There, they would disable the Gravity Stabilizer and allow the Rangers to use a Mag Booster to move it off course, preventing it from destroying Umbris. With their plan in action, the Rangers managed to destroy New Quartu instead of Umbris, with Drek still on the surface, while Ratchet, Clank, and a redeemed Qwark defeated Dr. Nefarious. The Deplanetizer was destroyed, and the three managed to escape the station before it fell onto Umbris and disintegrated.

Characteristics[]

Elaris is a tall woman with light blue skin and dark blue markings along her face and hands. She has green eyes, and two dark blue horns curving downward on the back of her head. She wears white and black clothing. Elaris is kind and intelligent, being one of the smartest women in the galaxy,[4] able to provide tactical support and producing most of their gear after Nefarious left the Rangers. However, she is not very assertive, and as such is often ignored by the Rangers.[2] She is socially awkward around big crowds.[5]

Behind the scenes[]

Elaris was voiced by Rosario Dawson in both the movie and game.

In early versions of the script, Elaris would feature a fifth Galactic Ranger named Stig, who would be Elaris' love interest. He remained in the script for a long time before he was cut.[6]

Elaris' room features two easter eggs. When they meet her, she is seen playing Up Your Arsenal in first person mode. Despite appearing to be playing a game online, she was not playing the multiplayer mode, as she was fighting tyhrranoids. Also, her bulletin board features Rainmaker Entertainment's actual production schedule.[6]

Her physical appearance bears similarity to Hydro Girl from Deadlocked.

The pre-production designs for Elaris and many characters in the 2016 game and movie were created by Go For Launch Productions.
