Enforcers[1][2] are enemies in Tools of Destruction. They are machines designed by Percival Tachyon for the Imperial Army, piloted by drophyds. A central piece of Tachyon's army, enforcers are used in imperial invasions, such as Tachyon's invasion of Kerwan, as well as for security. Ratchet and Clank fought them on various occasions.

Enforcers without legs that function only as turrets are fought on Zordoom Prison's outer section. More powerful obsidian enforcers,[3][4] upgraded enforcers with greater durability, are also fought beginning on Reepor.

The space pirates possess an inferior variant of the enforcer called the Skull Walker.

History[]

Before Tools of Destruction[]

The Fall of the Lombaxes 2

Tachyon and his enforcers attack Fastoon

Tachyon drew up blueprints for the enforcers and supplied them to the Center for Advanced Lombax Research. The earlier model lacked a dome for a drophyd to pilot and contained a skull-like head instead, suggesting it was a robot rather than a mech. Alister Azimuth eventually entrusted Tachyon with lombax technology hoping Tachyon's weapons could protect the Polaris Galaxy; instead, Tachyon used them and the drophyd army in his invasion of Fastoon.[5]

Tools of Destruction[]

Enforcers appeared during the invasion of Kerwan in "Go to the Defense Center!". These enforcers attacked the city and Ratchet was largely able to avoid them.[a]

Ratchet first fought enforcer turrets that defended Zordoom Prison, Viceron in "Grind the Rails to the Prison", before fighting actual enforcers in the prison inside. On the cragmite ruins, Reepor, Ratchet fought both standard enforcers as well as obsidian enforcers, galvanized with raritanium and significantly more durable.[3] In "Save Meridian City", a few Obsidian enforcers were fought in the mostly cragmite invasion force on Meridian City, Igliak.

Characteristics[]

Enforcers are large, four-legged robotic machines with rapid-fire cannons to their side. Their legs grant them the ability to jump tall distances and cling to the sides of buildings, as seen on Kerwan. Enforcers sometimes crouch to attack their opponents.

The turret enforcers have the same body, but without the legs.

Combat[]

Enforcers fire rapid-fire laser blasts from their cannons in bursts, before briefly recharging and firing again. Though the laser blasts can be dodged, their main threat is their durability. Enforcers can withstand a large amount of damage while dishing out some of their own. As such, stronger weapons such as the Alpha Disruptor and Negotiator are essential against them, and it is better to save their ammo specifically against the enforcers. The Nano-Swarmers is also effective at dealing damage to them slowly over time.

Obsidian enforcers amplify this problem due to their added durability. They are typically able to withstand all full blast of ammo even from the Alpha Disruptor. They are still susceptible to the Mag-Net Launcher, meaning they can be locked in place and prevented from attacking entirely.

Behind the scenes[]

A purely robotic enforcer appeared battling Ratchet on Kerwan in the opening and ending cutscenes of PlayStation Move Heroes. It was defeated when Ratchet damaged its knee: disabling its internal retro-formation modulator.

Notes[]

Annotations[]

  1. The enforcer that hops away after Ratchet lands can be stopped in its tracks using a Groovitron, and then continues to attack Ratchet. However, it cannot be damaged by means of weapons or devices.
