Darkwater Cove is a location in Quest for Booty. It is an island on Merdegraw that belonged to Captain Angstrom Darkwater, and was the home of his pillaged loot. Darwkater Cove was heavily guarded, as no one was allowed entry other than Darkwater himself. Beneath the island are the Lythoin Caves.

Ratchet, Talwyn Apogee, and the Smuggler traveled to Darkwater Cove in search of the Fulcrum Star, fooling the pirate doorkeepers and the Bartender to think Ratchet was Darkwater.

History[]

Captain Darkwater was known for pillaging "a million bolts without ever spending a penny", instead storing all of his loot on Darkwater Cove, his private sanctuary guarded by puzzles and booby traps.[1][2] Rumors and disturbing stories spread of Darkwater Cove,[3][1] although the island was still a myth, one that Mayor Barnabus Worley did not believe in.[1]

When Darkwater obtained the Fulcrum Star, he kept it in Darkwater Cove. A map, written in Decadroid,[2] was on his person when he was killed and left to die in Morrow Caverns,[4] meaning the map remained there and the island stayed hidden.

When Ratchet came to Merdegraw, he obtained the map to Darkwater Cove and in "Find a Translator", had the Smuggler translate it to read it.[2] In "Search for Clues", the Smuggler took Ratchet and Talwyn to Darkwater Cove where they searched for the Fulcrum Star, and Ratchet had to tell the pirate doorkeepers he was Darkwater to enter.[5] In "Solve the Riddles of Darkwater", Ratchet fooled one pirate doorkeeper by playing Darkwater's old music on the large organ, and fooled the Bartender by brewing grog that Darkwater used to make. However, Darkwater knew he was there, and sent several undead pirates to attack him even as he reached the treasure room.[6] In "Enter the Treasure Room", before Ratchet could reach the Fulcrum Star inside, a trap door caused him to fall into the Lythoin Caves, while Darkwater and Romulus Slag kidnapped Talwyn.[7]

With Ratchet trapped, Darkwater and Slag took Talwyn to Hoolefar Island,[8] heading for the Zoni world to plunder it.[9] In "Escape the Deadly Caves", Ratchet fought his way out of the caves, and encountered and defeated Sprocket. He then reunited with the Smuggler and they set sail to catch up to Darkwater in the Azorean Sea.

Darkwater Cove is a small, dark island east of Hoolefar Island. Its location is not known to the general public, as only a map written in Decadroid[2] had its location, while some thought the island to be a myth.[1]

Darkwater Cove is a tropical island with flora similar to Hoolefar Island, with the main distinction being that it is covered in swamp water. Towering over the island is an immense construct in the shape of a skull, where Darkwater's treasure room is located. The island is guarded by pirate doorkeepers and the Bartender who refuse to allow anyone but Darkwater to pass.[5] The island is known for its booby traps and puzzles required to prove oneself as Darkwater to enter,[1] of which one is a large organ where one must play Darkwater's favorite tunes, and another is a brewery where one must brew grog for Darkwater's bartender.[6] Aside from Darkwater's guards, the island is inhabited by hostile wildlife, including anthropods and gore thwogs, but is also home to the harmless heliogrubs.

Underneath Darkwater Cove are the Lythoin Caves, an underground tunnel system entered by a trap door from the treasure room. The cave network greatly resembles Morrow Caverns, with a few pirate structures around an otherwise dark cave network. As well as the anthropods and gore thwogs, the caves are also home to the pythors, and to a species of large, bluish-green, worm-like creatures also seen before within prison cells in Zordoom Prison on planet Viceron.
