Kronos is a planet featured in Deadlocked. Located in the Shadow Sector in the Solana Galaxy, it is home to a grand and highly advanced metropolis, and the site of the Dark Cathedral.[1] True to its name, the city takes on a more sinister appearance, with a dark atmosphere and frequent storms.

Ratchet and Team Darkstar came to Kronos for its battlecourse challenges on DreadZone, after those on Sarathos. It was here that they fought Shellshock, who was based in the Dark Cathedral itself.

History[]

Little is known about Kronos' history prior to Vox Industries' arrival, though the Dark Cathedral suggests it was home to a dark religious culture. It was also home to a police force named the Kronos Peace Keepers.[2] The Dark City on Kronos was taken over by Shellshock and his army as the pretext for the DreadZone battlecourse,[1] explaining why it appeared entirely uninhabited.

Ratchet and Team Darkstar arrived for the Kronos challenges where their objective was to defeat Shellshock. Throughout their battles, they blasted through DreadZone combatants to activate solar towers, allowing them to unlock the Dark Cathedral doors and confront Shellshock. Eventually, they dueled him inside the sanctuary halls and defeated him, liberating Kronos and completing the battlecourse.

Geography[]

The exterior (top) and interior (bottom) map layouts of the Dark Cathedral.

Kronos has an oceanic climate with apparently cool temperatures and very high rainfall. From space, the planet appears to be covered in cityscape, as technologically advanced skyscrapers cover much of the planet.

Dark Cathedral 1

The Dark Cathedral.

The Dark Cathedral has an ominous atmosphere, with tall, imposing skyscrapers having an industrial look and large spires that contribute to a sinister appearance. Of the buildings near the Dark Cathedral, some resemble residential buildings, while others resemble factories. With limited daylight, a few lights from the buildings illuminate the city a minimal amount. Of what is seen from Kronos, the Dark Cathedral is by far the tallest building.

Dark Cathedral 2

The Dark Cathedral interior.

The entire DreadZone battlecourse is centered around the Dark Cathedral, and a few rooftops surrounding it. Across these disparate rooftops high above the ocean, bridges and towers connect them, with some smaller arenas dotted around the outside of the cathedral, and an abundance of grind rails to connect the distant rooftops. The Dark Cathedral itself is filled with large halls connecting wide, spacious rooms with chandeliers at the top. Some of these halls are filled with sludge, and normally impassable without the Hypershot.

Multiplayer[]

Part of the Dark Cathedral is featured in multiplayer as the Dark Cathedral map. The accessible terrain encompasses the entire exterior platform area in front of the central structure, with the exception of the grind rails and any turrets. Jump pads and versa-targets are the only way to get around between the disconnected platforms, which offer a wide open view for long range fire. At the far ends of the map, on both sides, are hoverships that offer a much more advantageous way to traverse the arena.
