Rionosis is a location in Secret Agent Clank. Because the planet moves around the sun at such rapid speed, a new year comes every 4.2 seconds; as such, the planet is known for its frequent New Year celebrations.

Clank arrived on Rionosis while trailing the Kingpin through Azcotal Alley to find the Eye of Infinity. On the way, Clank was able to use masks purchased from street vendors (sold for New Year celebrations) to disguise himself. When traveling through Azcotal Alley, Clank spotted gondolas going to and leaving from the mountainside ascent.

History[]

The Eye of Infinity was sent to Rionosis by Ivana Lottabolts, a fact Lottabolts later passed on to Clank.[1]

In "All The Kingpin's Men", Clank trailed the Kingpin through Azcotal Alley, taking out the Kingpin's Expatriot guards along the way. The Kingpin's bodyguard, Jack of All Trades, came to the Kingpin's defense, as the two fled Clank through the streets and then over the gondolas during "Get A Lift". Clank knocked out Jack and found a card from Le Paradis Des Tricheurs Casino on his person, giving him a clue to the next location of the Eye.[2]

Captain Qwark and Barney, writing Qwark's autobiography, arrived on the scene where Clank had knocked Jack out. There, Qwark fabricated a story in which he personally had fought and defeated Jack, prompting "Qwarkography, The Gamblin' Years".

Geography[]

Rionosis' planetary rotation means a new year occurs every 4.2 seconds.[3] The terrain of the planet appears to be mountainous, as mountains can be seen during the gondola ascent, as well as volcanoes (seen during Clank's chase of the Kingpin). The planet appears to have a tropical climate, as lush trees and a warm sky are seen at Azcotal Alley.

Azcotal Alley is located on a tropical mountaintop. The town is known for the New Year celebrations that rapidly occur.[3] It primarily comprises stone pyramid-like buildings and streets that resemble Aztec architecture.

The mountainside ascent showcases various mountain retreats, ski slopes, and a volcano. The gondolas traveling to the retreats are said to be the "very definition of luxury".[4]

Society[]

The planet is primarily inhabited by "hawkers"[a]; bird-like humanoid aliens who appear to chiefly live up in the mountains in towns such as Azcotal Alley. The gondolas leading to the mountain retreats nearby suggest tourism is a major source of income for the planet.

Qwark claimed he rescued several 'space nuns', in fact female Hawkers, from a space kudzu in the spaceship graveyard.[5]

The planet is also the homeworld of the expatriots and henchbots.[6]

Behind the scenes[]

The name "Rionosis" is a likely reference to the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro, famous around the world for its carnivals. Azcotal Alley is a possible reference to the town's Aztec influence.
