Ardolis is a location in Tools of Destruction. It is a remote, tropical, oceanic world in the Cerullean Sector of the Polaris Galaxy. Notably, the planet is home to the pirate base of the space pirates led by Captain Slag in the Irquol-Sul fjords archipelago. Nearby the base are the Sarrdollow Caves, a network across a series of islands, and the Blackstar Memorial Radio Tower, also known as the Pirate Radio HQ.

Ratchet and Clank, with the help of Talwyn Apogee, Cronk, and Zephyr, explored the planet in search of the Lombax Secret. The group battled the pirates led by Captain Slag and his right-hand man Rusty Pete, and found a lombax artifact among the treasure held by the pirates.

A counterpart to the planet exists in Rivet's dimension, visited in Rift Apart.

History[]

Before Tools of Destruction[]

The space pirates built a radio tower, the Blackstar Memorial Radio Tower, from pillaged kerchu pieces. As well as hosting Pirate Radio, the tower was used to send fake distress calls to unsuspecting ships so as to loot them. They also named a mountain after their Captain Julius MacGuffin of the Andromeda System.[1] The pirates had a song about a "wench from Ardolis" who told them a life of crime did not pay.[2][3]

During a space pirate raid on of Apogee Space Station in the Nundac Asteroid Ring, the space pirates stole an ancient lombax artifact from Max Apogee.[4] The artifact was then hidden for years in the pirate base on planet Ardolis.

Pirates from Ardolis paid the Smuggler to find leviathan souls.[5] Knowing this, Ratchet, Clank, Talwyn, Cronk, and Zephyr had a clue as to the origin of the pirates who raided Apogee Space Station, and traveled there after Ratchet told them.[4]

Ratchet, Clank, Talwyn, Cronk, and Zephyr visited Ardolis and fought space pirates there. In "Infiltrate the Pirate Hideout", Ratchet and Clank made their way inside the base, sneaking through the Sarrdollow Caves. In "Find the Treasure Room", the two reached the treasure room and found the artifact but were almost caught by Slag and Rusty Pete after Slag recognized lombax smell, until Tawlyn's smoke bomb gave them time to escape.[6] While catching up to Talwyn, the two inadvertently took a Rusty Pete boat tour around the base while escaping the pirates, before catching Cronk and Zephyr at the radio tower. There, they deduced the lombax artifact was a map, and followed coordinates to Rykan V.[1]

Geography[]

The pirate base on Ardolis.

From space, Ardolis appears to have a warm climate and be covered largely in oceans, with relatively small continents. The pirate base is located in the Irquol-Sul fjords.[7] The base is built around several tropical islands, complete with dripping caves and waterfalls. Flying whale-like creatures fly above the area, and pirates make campsites around the islands.

The larger pirate base comprises a set of metal structures built into the water that tower over the rest of the area. One of these contains a treasure room filled with gold and chests. Another is a pub, advertised by bright neon signs of pirates drinking grog. Nearby is the large Blackstar Memorial Radio Tower, a tower whose design resembles a skull.[1]

Sardollow Caves.

The Sardollow Caves[8] is a network of caves with waterfalls running through them. The caves are inhabited by pirates. Lampposts illuminate the caves (with thwogs resting on some of the ropes connecting the posts), and wooden bridges connect them, while pirates have campsites set up throughout them.

The base is navigated by a number of vessels resembling pirate boats, ranging from small to large. One such small vessel can be used for tours of the base. This tour points out both the Blackstar Memorial Tower and Mount MacGuffin, the mountain close to the base.[1]
